      Ironically, the Vall d'Aran, in the north-west corner, is one of the most pro-union counties in Catalonia. Culturally, geographically, and linguistically it's quite different and usually votes pro-Spain parties, possibly the only 'rural' county to do so.

        The Catalan government has already recognised that in an independent Catalonia, the right of the Aranès people to their self-determination would be respected.
